Belém is a suburb of Portugal and is easily accessible by train from the center. An ideal morning trip, after which you can go to, for example, Cascais in the afternoon and relax on the beach!

  • Pastéis de Belém (it can be crowded here, according to the experts you get the best custard cakes here)

Sintra

A 40 minutes drive (or you can take the train) brings you from Lisbon to Sintra, the Monte da Lua (moon mountain). A magical, mysterious place with many mansions and their beautiful gardens as well as palaces. No wonder it is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

  • Castelo dos Mouros
  • Palacio de Pena (be prepared to wait for quite some time at Sintra's colourful eye-catcher)
  • Palacio Nacional
  • Quinta da Regaleira
