Getting to Caumasee

Caumasee is located near the town of Flims in the Graubünden canton of Switzerland. The lake is easily accessible by car, and there are also public transportation options available. The nearest international airport to Caumasee is Zurich Airport (ZRH). From the airport, you can take a rental car to get to Caumasee, or use the train to get to Chur. From Chur, it’s a 30 minute bus ride to the town of Flims. From here, you can walk to the parking lot where the actual walk to the lake will start.


Parking
There are a variety of parking places available near Caumasee. Note that you’ll have to pay a small parking fee per hour, which the parking machine only accepts in Swiss Francs.

 

From the parking lot, follow the signs to Caumasee and make the walk downhill to get to the entrance of the lake. It will take you approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The path is easy, but note that on the way back you have to walk up.


Best time to visit

The best time to visit Caumasee is between May and September, when the weather is nicely warm and more then pleasant. During summer, you can even go swimming in this stunning lake.


Entrance fee

If you want to swim, you’ll have to pass a ticket counter where you have to buy an entrance ticket to the lake, which will cost you CHF 19 (Adults) | CHF 9.50 (Children from 6-17). The lake is open in summer months from 8 AM to 5 PM (check their website for more actual information). For those seeking some activity, rent a paddleboard or pedal boat to further explore the lake.


Or go for a walk!

Caumasee is also an excellent starting point for exploring the surrounding hiking and nature trails. You can walk outside the lake (20-30 minute trail), but also take the longer walk (70 minutes) to the nearby Crestasee. You’ll hike through the lush forests and alpine meadows, enjoying stunning vistas as well as various wildflowers.
