5 beautiful Nusa Penida viewpoints

Published on 31 March 2023 at 18:00

Nusa Penida has numerous viewpoints, with some offering even more beautiful views than others. Because Nusa Penida is a volcanic island, it has a beautiful jagged coastline. The beautiful blue water, all the greenery on the rocks and the high waves crashing against the rocks make it the perfect place to enjoy the moment and unwind.

Should you have a drone, these are all unique places to capture footage. For photography lovers, Nusa Penida is without a doubt the perfect island!

1000 Islands Viewpoint

The 1000 Islands Viewpoint is known for the Lamphu Treehouse, one of the most photogenic spots on Nusa Penida. Even without visiting this treehouse, you can absolutely get a great view from the 1000 Islands Viewpoint. In fact, to book a night at the Lamphu Treehouse you have to be able to plan very well, as it is often booked months in advance.

The viewpoint gives you great views of the coastline and the many small islands off the coast; including the diamond-shaped rock that flaunts above the water at Diamond Beach. Its location on the east side makes it an ideal place to visit for sunrise, getting your day off to the best possible start. The locals also call this spot Pulau Seribu, but it is clearly marked along the road as Thousand Islands Viewpoint.

Entrance fee: 10,000 IDR

Manta Point

Manta Point is not only the most popular place to swim with manta rays, but is also a fantastic viewpoint. If you come early in the morning you have a good chance of seeing some manta rays swimming in the water. This combined with the breathtaking view of the coastline makes it a unique viewpoint on Nusa Penida.

You don't pay an entrance fee to visit Manta Point, although there are some local vendors present who are only too happy to sell you a coconut. They are very friendly and will have a short chat with you, obviously hoping you will buy something from them sooner.

Paluang Cliff

Avoid the crowds around Kelingking Beach but still have a beautiful view of the unique T-Rex Beach? Paluang Cliff is a place near Kelingking Beach with its own amazing scenery. It is only a 5-minute drive from Kelingking and is a great alternative spot overlooking the Kelingking T-rex from the other side, without the crowds

At the Paluang Cliff are swings and photo platforms, plus a Balinese temple with a quirky car temple, also known as the "car temple" of Nusa Penida.

Saren Cliff

When visiting Saren Cliff, it is good to know that you will have to drive the last part (about 1.5 KM) of the route on a very bumpy, but also unpaved road. When I was there it had rained the day before, after which the 's unpaved section was also partly muddy. So be careful if you go by scooter yourself! The stretch is definitely not comfortable, but the view will be absolutely worth it! Thereby, it is actually the only viewpoint on the island I visited that was somewhat more difficult to reach.

Teletubbies Hills

With a creative imagination, you can perfectly imagine why people named this viewpoint after the hills from the popular children's series. Should you not go during the rainy season (November - April) chances are that the hills are not as green, so then the visit may not be worthwhile. It is fairly on the route towards Manta Point, but also fairly close to Diamond Beach on the east side of Nusa Penida, among others.
